CIDCO to provide free water tankers in societies with water scarcity
Sends an assurance written letter to the KTCWA
After several agitations by the residents of Kharghar who have been facing water scarcity, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has finally agreed to provide free water tankers in societies with water scarcity.
Kharghar Taloja Colonies Welfare Association (KTCWA) and Kharghar Forum had a detailed discussion with the CIDCO administration on the issue. At the initiative of KTCWA, citizens living in various housing societies in Kharghar, in the recent months, had been staging several agitations at CIDCO Bhavan regarding water scarcity in the area.
Explaining the concept Mangesh Ranawade of KTCWA said, “As per the CIDCO rule, 650 litres of water per flat per day is to be supplied. For example, if a society has 50 flats the society should actually get 32500 litres of water. If in case the water is supplied less, than the concerned society can approach the CIDCO following which the officers from the water department will come and check for three consecutive days the water supply reading and if the reading shows that there was less water supplied than CIDCO will provide the difference water through water tankers free of cost”.
Adding further he said, “If any society is facing a water shortage and it is established by adequate surveying, then the societies will be provided free water tankers as per the assurance from CIDCO. Although this won’t be changing the scarcity issue of the city, it is a good initiative by the CIDCO officials and an achievement for the societies. Each water tanker is of 10,000 litres’ capacity.”
“ So far, CIDCO has failed to live upto its promises. If this does not happen even now, then the legal battle will continue,” said Ranawade.
